Cursor
The AI code editor
- No reviews yetCategory: Dev ToolsUpdated May 2026
Cursor is a code editor built on the VS Code core with AI woven through the whole experience: multi-line autocomplete, an in-editor chat that reads your codebase, and an agent mode that can make and apply multi-file edits. Existing VS Code extensions and keybindings mostly carry over.
Highlights
- Best-in-class AI completion and codebase-aware chat
- Agent mode applies coordinated multi-file edits
- Inherits the VS Code ecosystem and muscle memory
- Bring-your-own-key option for some models
Cursor is the pick when AI is not a side feature but the point. Because it is a VS Code fork, switching costs are low — your extensions and shortcuts come along — while the AI is far more integrated than the Copilot extension. If you want the same ergonomics without leaving Microsoft's builds, Copilot in VS Code is the conservative alternative; if you object to closed source, Zed's built-in AI is the open option.
